According to Mal Couch, a person needs to be smarter than he is. In an article entitled, “A Review of the Book ‘The Rapture Question Answered Plain & Simple’,” Mal Couch,[1] in what may be one of the nastiest reviews written to date, made the following statement:

What is so interesting about the pre-wrath rapture argument presented by both Rosenthal and Van Kampen is how complicated their teaching is in order to arrive at their position. Some who are critical of this school of thinking have even jested that it is so complicated, even the apostles Paul and John would have difficulty explaining how this teaching works!

The Primary Target of the Bowl Judgments

With the end of Gentile rule and the release of national Israel from God’s chastisement, at the seventh trumpet God Almighty freely resumes His physical rule over the earth (the Gospel of the Kingdom) and sets in motion its final cleansing. The focus of the bowl judgments in Revelation 16-19 is upon Satan, the Antichrist, the false prophet, and the beast-marked worshipers. Following those judgments, Matthew 25:31ff describes what is typically called “The Sheep and Goat Judgment,” which occurs when God separates the righteous and the wicked just before the beginning of the temporal kingdom.

Dr. Robert L. Thomas’ efforts to defend pretribulational imminence may be likened to gymnastic contortions with his exegesis of II Thessalonians 2:1-3, and suggest either a deliberate attempt to deceive his readers or an ignorance of the whole counsel of the Word of God. I refuse to believe either conclusion to be true. Therefore, I am at a loss to explain why Dr. Thomas takes the positions he does when seeking to interpret what some conclude is the most difficult passage for the pretribulational position to overcome.
